Project Overview

Promovans partnered with James Cook University (JCU) to deliver the UniX Roadshow, a purpose-built mobile event that travelled across rural and remote Queensland. The activation was designed to bring the university directly to prospective students, families, and communities who might otherwise struggle to access campus life due to distance or socio-economic barriers.

The UniX Roadshow combined information sessions, interactive displays, and immersive virtual reality experiences housed within a custom-built event trailer, fully branded and equipped for regional touring.

Vision

  • Improve access to tertiary education for communities in remote and low socio-economic regions.
  • Increase visibility, engagement, and brand awareness for JCU in regional Queensland and southern parts of the state.
  • Drive preference for JCU during the crucial QTAC application window by making the university experience tangible and accessible.

Delivery

  • Custom Event Trailer: Provided one of Promovans’ MKII trailers, customised with a low-entry hydraulic suspension system, double entrances for crowd flow, and optional wheelchair ramp for accessibility.
  • Immersive Fitout: Installed bench seating, storage, LED lighting, wall-to-wall graphics, and AV equipment to create an engaging learning and brand environment.
  • Virtual Reality Integration: Delivered VR tours of JCU’s Cairns and Townsville campuses, enabling prospective students to explore facilities without travelling.
  • Mobile Billboard Branding: Wrapped the trailer in bold JCU graphics, maximising visibility both at event sites and in transit across 5,485km of Queensland roads.
  • Logistics & Support: Managed planning, professional driver services, interstate transfer, and on-site setup/dismantle, ensuring JCU staff could focus solely on engagement.
  • COVID-Safe Design: Trailer featured dual entrances and airflow considerations for safe visitor management during pandemic conditions.

Impact

  • Reach: Delivered activations across 18 locations (11 schools & 7 communities), engaging over 1,100 people.
  • Leads: Collected 500+ quality leads, directly feeding JCU’s recruitment pipeline.
  • Media Exposure: Gained press coverage across local newspapers, radio ads in 100+ locations, and strong social media presence.
  • Regional Connection: Positioned JCU as an institution that values rural and remote communities, strengthening brand trust.
  • Award Recognition: Won Gold at the World Exhibition Stand Awards for Best Activation ‘On the Move / Roadshow’, validating the success of the program.
  • Sustained Outcomes: Boosted attendance at JCU’s Virtual Open Day and reinforced brand preference in regional QTAC markets.
